By now the subculture of Vogue Balls and the simultaneous tragic fabulosity of their participants have passed into a rivulet of pop culture that is more mainstream than it previously was; thanks to the re-emergence of Jenny Livingston‘s Paris Is Burning, books like Chantal Regnault‘s Voguing and the House Ballroom Scene of New York, new skool producers like MikeQ and the re-invigoration of Ball culture in New York and the USA in general. But to dig a little deeper into different categories to werq in, here is a sexy little edit of a category known as: SEX SIRENS.

This category was in fact borrowed from the idea of the ‘Body’ categories, which were, obviously, for showcasing The Body in the late 70s. “A 27-year-old porn actor is in hot water for allegedly breaking into a fire station and engaging in a sex act. Nicolas Gonzales was arrested early Saturday morning after it’s claimed he smashed a window at the Kentucky station in order to masturbate on fire gear he removed from lockers, WHAS-TV reported.

Firefighter Michael Davenport came across Gonzales in a heated act of self pleasure, but said the suspect never acknowledged his presence. “He continued his lewd act and that’s when I grabbed him by his shirt and drug him out,” Davenport told WHAS-TV. Police arrived on the scene and arrested Gonzales for burglary, public intoxication and criminal mischief. Arresting officers said the suspect was under the influence of alcohol. When asked why he broke in, Gonzales allegedly stated, “Because I wanted to,” according to WLKY.com.

I met Jason Michael Daniels as Merrie Cherrie at notorious Brooklyn night spot The Metropolitan one night. There was a drag show on, with a bunch of queens; the place was packed to the rafters. I went outside to smoke a cigarette, a little tipsy. Maybe a lot tipsy. Merrie Cherrie rolled out and for some reason, all I remember is the fact that I ended up, er, motorboating her cleavage. Did I ever pick the right queern to motorboat, because it turned out that Merrie Cherrie is a diva of Brooklyn nightlife and one of the queens of it’s drag scene…. So, meet Jason Michael Daniels, perhaps better known as, MERRIE CHERRIE.

What do you do/who are you/current projects?
Merrie Cherrie: I am a loving grandson first and foremost, But I also do drag, promote and organize parties.

Career highlights to date?
Merrie Cherrie: 1. My monthly drag show/competition DRAGnet, that I put on with DJ Nicky Fader at Metropolitan Bar every third Thursday. This party is the reason why my life has changed so much in one year, it is my baby and savior for rent money.
2. The 1st annual BUSHwig Festival that I helped organize and promote with the head organizers Horrorchata and Babes Trust. The House of BUSHwig was created from this event, I found the family I was looking for in New York.
3. My most current event the 1st Annual Brooklyn Nightlife Awards, which was held on January 27th. I set out to bring all the different Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transexual, and Straight Allies together and I feel as if I succeed in my goal. It was a huge undertaking, but it was my way of trying to leave a mark on the borough I love and call home.

Merrie Cherrie: David John Sokolski and I are planning a monthly period burlesque party called Cat’s Meow, at a new bar called Bizarre in Bushwick. We both feel as if burlesque and boylesque does not have a strong presence in Brooklyn, we are setting out to change that. Also, the House of Bushwick is going on its first American tour in the Fall.
