Bizarre
Published irregularly between 1946 and 1959, Bizarre covered incredibly taboo topics of transvestism, corsets, bondage and even amputee fetishism. Born John Alexander Scott Coutts, ‘John Willie’, UK slang for penis, seemed a more fitting ‘nummed plum’ for a pioneer on the fetish front. Having lived on almost every continent in his life, Willie developed a brain tumor in California and was forced to close shop on his small mail order project and in the vain of David Bailey, Duffy and Terrance Donovan, burn and destroyed his entire archive before dying in his sleep in England. Thankfully, Tashcen and Eric Kroll got their hands on back issues and put together a complete collection of Bizarre’s reprints.
