This year is really important, if only because it’s been three decades since the release of Heavy Metal.
The feature film was comprised of eight animated stories, based on a comic book series of the same name. A stand-out in the trailer is a badass lady called Taarna the Taarakian, who, in this scene, can be witnessed beheading three insistent suitors with the greatest of ease.
One of the film’s most noteworthy vignettes is So Beautiful and So Dangerous, which features robot sex, a Jewish wedding, a dry-cleaning bill and the crew of a spaceship getting loaded on plutonian cyborg.
Aside from its use of rotoscoping, Heavy Metal does seem a little dated – but be assured that it will always live on in the throbbing hearts and… minds of Taarna’s many fans.
